In the uncontaminated nature of the National Park of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, the Alta Val Parma and the Alta Val Cedra are typically mountain territories rich in important geomorphological testimonies, cloaked in beech forests and expanses of blueberries and dotted with splendid natural bodies of water.

From the peaks of the Tuscan-Emilian ridge, with their spectacular views, the valleys stretch out in large basins shaped by ancient glaciers and today occupied by countless lakes, in some cases extensive and deep, which are traditional destinations for pleasant excursions.

They are, in fact, present and visible several lakes and peatlands of glacial origin, including the Lago Santo Parmense (1507 m a.s.l.), the Lagoni (Gemini Lakes), Lake Ballano (1341 m a.s.l.), Green Lake (1507 mt. s.l.m.), the spectacular Sillara Lakes (1732 m a.s.l.) the highest of the Parma Apennines, the small Lake Frasconi (1600 m a.s.l.), the Lake Verdarolo (1388 mt. a.s.l.) to which are added many others.

All these lakes are both a destination and a starting point for many excursions that lead to the discovery of an area of high naturalness, one of the most characteristic elements of the valley.

The localities of Lagdei and Lagoni, in the Municipality of Corniglio, and the locality Prato Spilla, in the Municipality of Monchio delle Corti, are the main access points to the paths of the Park, and there are, in these places, typical alpine refuges in which to find refreshment.
