We move on to the Middle Ages with the village of Bobbio, built around the abbey, founded by the Irish monk Colombano in 614, which was one of the most important monastic and cultural centers in Europe, thanks to the prestigious scriptorium, containing more than seven hundred manuscripts. Today the abbey houses three museums: an archaeological one with important finds from the Roman and Lombard period, a civic one on local history and one of art of the ‘900 with works by internationally renowned authors such as Fontana and De Chirico.
Medieval are also the villages of Rivalta, gathered around the imposing castle and Brugnello, composed of small stone houses arranged around the church that stands out overlooking the meanders of the Trebbia.
