The locality, developed around the castle

The Castle is one of the most important monuments of defense of the feudal era in Alta Emilia. Built at the beginning of the eleventh century on an ancient Roman settlement, it was one of the fundamental garrisons of the Marquis Pallavicino for the control of the Via Francigena and the salt wells in the area.

After centuries of contention between great noble families to get hold of it, in 800 the Castle was transformed into a private home and center of a farm that until the 90s produced and matured Parmigiano Reggiano in the Borgo and in the Castle.

Borgo and Castello have been for almost a millennium the center of rural life and production. Throughout the twentieth century the beating heart of the local economy was the dairy and the dairy, where the milk from the surrounding farms was collected and processed to become Parmesan cheese to be aged in the warehouses of the Castle.

With the end of Parmesan production, in 2005 a gradual recovery work began on the Borgo to transform it into a Charming Relais with rooms, suites and apartments, meeting rooms, wellness and two restaurants, one of which is located in the ancient dairy.
