Built in 890 by the Noble Marquis Luppone was enlarged and fortified reaching its maximum splendor at the end of the fourteenth century with Pier Maria dei Rossi, a family so powerful that it could fight with an emperor or deal with a pope.

The Reds were lords of Felino for 133 years.

In 1483 the castle was conquered by Ludovico il Moro who had all the fortifications and walls flattened to the foundations.

The castle today preserves intact the fifteenth-century scheme of heavy and robust construction with sheer walls and large bastioned parapets that join the towers. In those years a chapel and an oratory offered to St. Peter were added, which still exists, completely frescoed with coats of arms of various families.

Prisons were also built in the basement. In 1502 the building was sold to the Pallavicino for 15,000 gold ducats.

Then came the Sforza who dominated the castle from 1540 to 1600. Various noble families succeeded each other such as the Farnese, the Lampugnani, the Marquis du Tillot, up to the Bishops of Parma who held it from 1775 to 1935.

In 1974 the castle was bought by the current owners.

Today, after more than twenty years of careful restoration, it can be admired in all its splendor. Suggestive and powerful is its night lighting to the point of being visible from miles away.

The Castle of Felino can be visited only partially (external walls, courtyard, underground).
