Piacenza cured meats, Parma ham, Val Taro mushroom and Parmesan cheese: these are just some of the PDO and PGI certified products present in the Emilian Apennines. This is where Italy’s great food and wine treasures originate: 51% of the Italian total of PDO and PGI agri-food products, 37% of wine products.
These are high numbers, with the consequence that, such recognizable brands, export not only products but also a strong identity inextricably linked to the name of some cities in the region.
Agri-food is one of the pillars of the economy of the Apennines: a sector that manages to combine innovation and tradition that can at the same time offer employment and seize opportunities.
Companies linked to catering, gastronomy and agritourism are increasingly attentive to nutritional, health aspects and organic culture: here is that the liveliness of the “food” sector can sometimes border on tourism and creativity.
