CAMPORA BROWN

Prodotti tipici

Important and ancient cultivar of chestnuts renowned in the area of Campora di Neviano degli Arduini (PR). It has certainly been present for centuries in this province in which it has perfectly adapted. Most likely it was already widespread at the time of Matilda of Canossa.
Variety mentioned several times in vintage publications from the ten to the thirties of the twentieth century, as very interesting and worthy of expansion. In past centuries this variety was exported abroad on the tables of the nobles of France and Spain for its strong organoleptic qualities

Used for the production of roasted chestnuts, chestnuts in liqueur, marrons glacès, sweet tortelli, castagnaccio, boiled or for jams. At one time it was widely employed in confectionery.
All the existing specimens are concentrated in the northern area of Monte Fuso especially in the villages of Campora, Vezzano and Scurano (Municipality of Neviano degli Arduini).
Every year, in October, the traditional Chestnut Festival is held, in Campora di Neviano degli Arduini (PR)
