Borgotaro’s Porcini Mushroom Museum is waiting for you: a journey through history and flavors

Theseasonal opening of the Borgotaro Porcini Mushroom Museum is a must-attend event for mushroom and food and wine culture enthusiasts. The museum, which is part of the Parma Food Museums network, reopened its doors on Saturday, March 4, and will be open every weekend and holiday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with pre-booked tours available every day of the week.

Located inside the Museum of the Walls at 86 Via Battisti in Borgotaro, the exhibit offers a journey through the history of the porcino mushroom, its nature and strong connection to Borgotarese tradition. Texts, photos, and videos create animmersive and educationalexperience, allowing one to understand the whole world around the Borgotaro mushroom PGI.

A corner with a kitchen has been set up inside the museum, used for tastings, classes, showcooking and workshops. The adjacent garden has also been renovated to provide additional space for cultural events and meetings of various kinds.

The Borgotaro porcini mushroom was grantedProtected Geographical Indication status in 1996, and is theonly PGI mushroom in Europe. The designation is reserved for four species of mushrooms of the genus Boletus that grow wild and are processed in the territory of the municipalities of Albareto, Bedonia, Berceto, Borgo Val di Taro, Compiano and Tornolo in the province of Parma, and Pontremoli and Zeri in the province of Massa-Carrara.

The opening of the Borgotaro Porcini Mushroom Museum is aunique opportunity to immerse ones elf in the history, culture and traditions related to this delicious local product, while at the same time helping to enhance the region’stourist and gastronomicappeal.
