Noceto is famous for the “nocino” liqueur, made with walnuts and still produced at an artisanal level.
According to tradition, the recipe for this liqueur was imported by Roman legionaries directly from Gaul.
Another legend tells that a soldier of fortune in the service of the lords of Noceto, would have recommended the secret recipe of this liqueur to a knight, as a “magical” concoction to win the heart of a noble lady with whom he was in love.
Finally, a third legend tells that the Celts themselves, when they lived in northern Italy, would have spread the nocino, which, to be authentic, had to be made with walnuts collected at dawn of the summer solstice by a barefoot virgin.
One thing is certain… Whether for one or the other narration, the Nocino has always brought something magical in itself, and the city where it originated is not far behind, with its castle that knows how to introduce, those who visit it, to travel through all these legends.
