Tuesday, October 18, 2022, in the radio column greetings from Kiss Kiss, we talked about the municipality of Bardi, in the province of Parma, thanks to the words of the mayor Valentina Pontremoli.

Bardi is located in the westernmost part of the province of Parma, not far from the border between Emilia Romagna and Liguria, near the correspondence between the Noveglia stream and the Ceno stream. Being in the upper valley of the Ceno, the village is located 625 meters above sea level. The municipality has almost 2000 inhabitants and a very high number (a hundred) of hamlets, including the ghost town of Vosina.

Landmarks in Bardi

  • Castle of Bardi: symbol of the country, dates back to the early Middle Ages. It is considered one of the main Italian military buildings and is home to the Museum of Valligiana Civilization. It is also famous for the legend of the ghost of Bardi Castle (click here to read its origin)
  • Palazzo Maria Luigia: seat of the Municipality, dates back to the sixteenth century, Renaissance period. It was expanded several times and today, in addition to the Municipality, it is also home to the municipal library and the tourist office.
  • Castle of Pietracervara: from ancient times, today its remains of considerable historical value can be visited.
  • Castle of Gravago: it could date back to the eighth century, that is the Lombard era. After many passages due to domination, it was abandoned and today the remains are preserved among the vegetation.
  • Church of Santa Maria Addolorata: in neo-Byzantine style, it contains numerous valuable works. For example: the seventeenth-century statue ofAddolorata, two crucifixes of the fifteenth century, a Sant’Andrea of the seventeenth century, the Bust of the Virgin by the seventeenth-century painter Francesco Nuvolone called “il Panfilo” and above all the Marriage of Saint Catherine and Saints John the Evangelist and John the Baptist, better known as
    Bardi Altarpiece
    , an early work by Parmigianino, made between 1521 and 152
  • Church of San Giovanni Battista: built at the beginning of 1500, it has precious rococo decorations inside. Inside it contains works of significant artistic value.
  • Church of San Francesco: large, sixteenth century but rebuilt in Baroque style.
