On Monday 10 October 2022, in the radio column greetings from Kiss Kiss, we talked about the municipality of Borgonovo Val Tidone, in the province of Piacenza, thanks to the words of Councilor Serena Carella.
The municipality of Borgonovo Val Tidone is located a few kilometers from the border between Emilia Romagna and Lombardy, in the northern part of the province of Piacenza. It is located at an altitude of 114 meters above sea level and has just over 8000 inhabitants. The municipality contains seven hamlets: Agazzino, Bilegno, Breno, Castelnovo Val Tidone, Corano, Fabbiano and Mottaziana.
Landmarks in Borgonovo Val Tidone
- Palazzo Baldini Radini Tedeschi: dated XVI century, in the ‘700 has undergone changes.
- Villa Calciati: of the eighteenth century, is a complex within which there is a deconsecrated oratory, built in the sixteenth century, called oratory of San Rocco, because of the saint invoked in the era of plague.
- Castelnovo Castle: of the fourteenth century, it is surrounded by a park with centuries-old trees that can be reached via a nineteenth-century tree-lined avenue.
- Castle of Corano: Built in an unknown era, it was destroyed in the twelfth century, then saw several renovations alternate.
- Rocca Sforzesca: at the entrance of the village, it originally included a moat filled with water with drawbridges. The building is the seat of the municipality.
- Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta: built in the early thirteenth century in Gothic style, it is made of red brick.
- Church of the Immaculate Conception: dating back to the seventeenth century, it is located in the center of the village. It has marble floors and a frescoed dome.
- Convent and Church of San Bernardino: already mentioned in 1414, they were rebuilt in neo-Gothic style. Inside the church there are frescoes by Luciano Ricchetti, a painter from Piacenza.
- Fiera dell’Angelo: traditional fair held on Easter Monday, with stalls in the streets of the town, food and wine festivals and exhibition of agricultural machinery.
- Festa d’ la chisöla: festival dedicated to chisöla, typical focaccia with cracklings. It takes place on the first Sunday of September.
