In the greetings from Kiss Kiss column, we talked about Alta Val Tidone, a municipality in Emilia Romagna in the province of Piacenza, guided by the words of Franco Albertini, Mayor of the village.
Älta Val Tidon
, in Piacenza dialect is a scattered Italian municipality of 2 875 inhabitants, established since 1 January 2018 following the merger of the municipalities of Caminata, Nibbiano and Pecorara. Nibbiano is located on the right bank of the Tidone stream, Caminata on the right bank of the Tidone, a few kilometers upstream of Nibbiano while Pecorara is located in Val Tidoncello, on the right bank of the stream, near the confluence of the two branches that give rise to it, the Tidoncello Merlingo and the Tidoncello di Sevizzano.
Places of interest and activities in Alta Val Tidone
- The Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mother of the Gentiles: located in the hamlet of Strà, it was built in the early 60s at the behest of the then parish priest Don Andrea Mutti on a project by the architect Carlo Felice Cattadori. Inside it preserves the wooden statue of the Madonna “Mother of the Nations” made by the artist Giuseppe Runggaldier and blessed in 1958 by Pope Pius XII.
- The Church of Saints Timothy and Synphorian: Located in Caminata, it was built between 1796 and 1856 in neoclassical style on a project drawn up by the architect Pittaluga.
- The Castle of Careggio: built before 1372, the building, transformed into a palace and, subsequently, into a rural residence is very different from the original appearance.
- The Castle of Corticelli: built during the last years of the eleventh century in anti-Pavia function, the building became the property of the Cigala family in the fifteenth century, being expanded in several excerpts, of which one, in 1535, saw the addition of a circular tower .
- The Castle of Nibbiano: during the nineteenth century it underwent the transformation into a residential palace; Following these important alterations the only surviving part of the medieval building is the tower.
- The Alpine Botanical Garden of Pietra Corva: founded in 1967 by the veterinarian and naturalist Antonio Ridella with the aim of preserving the presence of plants characteristic of high altitudes from various parts of the world, including the rare Meleagride.
