This is not a bus, but a traveling theater that is traveling the streets of the boot to launch messages against gender violence. A double-decker bus, mechanically rearranged and designed to become a theater on wheels, but above all a listening point and itinerant cultural garrison.
An initiative, conceived and coordinated by Sciara, a theater company specialized in non-formal education, recognized by the Emilia Romagna Region, the Ministry of Culture and a training institution accredited by the Ministry of Education for the themes of creativity. The initiative owes its name to Magritte’s famous painting “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” – symbol of the paradox between reality and representation – to convey a well-defined message: “this bus, although an object in the shape of a bus, is actually a traveling theater and a container of multiple experiences” say the promoters.
Its awareness-raising work – composed of the social issues that will be addressed, the meetings and shows that will be realized and the subjects that will be welcomed on board, such as artists, educators, researchers, social workers, students, citizens – will only be the representation of a real social condition, such as forms of gender violence, and can only have value outside the bus, through the awareness and behavior of those involved in it.
It will stop in ten mountain municipalities between Val D’Arda, Val Nure and Val Trebbia, as part of the “Utopia Possibile Bus” project funded by the Emilia-Romagna Region, with the aim of promoting information and awareness activities on the theme of the culture of consent and the fight against violence against women.
In order to promote gender citizenship education and a culture of non-discrimination in the younger generations, sentimental education workshops have been carried out by Sciara for the third middle classes of the lower secondary schools of the mountain municipalities involved in the tour that use the tool of theater to address the phenomenon of gender violence, of its forms, its psychological and emotional complications. In each square there will be screenings for adults and the listening point with free admission; on the second day at 20.30 there will be an immersive theatrical show for adults by reservation by Sciara Progetti Teatro, with a moment of post-show deepening.
