Sergio Brizzolesi’s Sculpture Exhibition in Gropparello represents an artist’s encounter with his hometown. The exhibition consists of a series of important sculptures whose protagonists are female figures who generally have classical postures but are animated by a restless spirit of modernity.
Brizzolesi was born in Gropparello on August 4, 1933, studied at the Gazzola Institute in PIacenza, and then began a series of moves, first to Caracas, then to Milan where he attended Brera and established himself in artistic circles.
Queens take shape during maturity, when youthful restlessness gives way to accomplished lines and more harmonious surfaces.
Notable public commissions include: the statue of St. Antonino for Piacenza and the portrait of Verdi that greeted Expo 2015 patrons at the Italy booth.
In Gropparello, Brizzolesi’s works can be seen in the following places:
● Church of St. Mary of the Assumption
● Old School (War Memorial)
● Council Chamber (bas-relief)
● Family House (bas-relief on facade)
● Cemetery
● new school complex
● City Hall
● Rome Square
● Artist’s House on Eccidio dei Guselli Street
