A selection of 30 images by one of the most celebrated Italian photographers, Maurizio Galimberti, traces the history of the twentieth century through its protagonists:
A look at the exhibition history – Maurizio Galimberti on display
When: from 8 October to 27 November 2022
Where: Castell’Arquato (PC), Palazzo del Podestà
The operation of decomposition and recomposition of instant photos that marks Galimberti’s stylistic code applies to the protagonists of the Short Century. The author works by giving new life and new meanings to shots taken by others filtered through the photographic mosaic technique.
The large-format works portray characters and situations that with the curatorship of Denis Curti become a narration of the twentieth century and the history of this era. Among the protagonists: Nikita Khrushchev, Gorbachev, Yeltsin, Falcone and Borsellino.
The exhibition brings together part of a project developed by Galimberti with Paolo Ludovici, who produced the works. The project aims on the one hand at a reflection on history for its value of experience from which to know how to catch mistakes; on the other hand to create a sort of register. A container to keep alive the memory of what should not be forgotten of the past to better understand the present.
The exhibition develops within the spaces of the Palazzo del Podestà. Built at the end of the thirteenth century as a palace representing civic power that was used over the centuries by the rulers of Castell’Arquato. Today the main floor houses the council chamber and exhibition spaces.
