Sunday 26 April 2026, meeting at “Bar Pizzeria il posto giusto”, Piazza Monumento 14, Varsi PR at 08.00; Second meeting at 08.30 a.m. punctual Passo del Pellizzone.

Fourth stage of the “Great Crossing of Valceno”. Starting from the Pelizzone Pass which divides the provinces of Parma and Piacenza and the arrival point of our third stage, we will go up to the Linguadà Pass, which always divides the two provinces, but this time between the municipalities of Bardi and Farini.

From the Pelizzone pass, we will immediately immerse ourselves in a beautiful beech forest, which after a few kilometers of light ups and downs, and after leaving Mount Cravola on our right will take us to the base of Groppo di Gora (1308 m), from here the path climbs decidedly uphill, and in a short time, After leaving the last beech trees behind, he will take us to a lunar environment made of ophiolitic rocks rich in iron and magnesium. We will then be able to enjoy a beautiful 360-degree view for a long stretch that ranges from Valceno to Val d’Arda, up to the peaks of the Alps on one side and the peaks of the Apuan Alps on the other.

Still walking in high-altitude meadows, we will then reach the second ophiolitic peak of our journey, the Castellaccio hill (1308 m). from here we will descend into the pastures below, where it is not difficult to meet the horses that go to water in the small lakes scattered in these prairies.

After a few kilometers of walking, leaving the ophiolitic peaks behind, we will enter the area of the Red Jasper of M. Lama (1345 m), the mountain considered to have the highest archaeological density in Europe, with 38 settlements discovered: from those of the lithic hunters, to the Copper Age and the defensive systems of the Landi Principality to defend the castle of Bardi.

Continuing our journey, we will dive back downhill into the beech woods that will take us after a few kilometers to the coast of the strinata, a saddle that divides M. Lama from M. Menegosa, we will then climb in the direction of the latter peak which with its 1356 m represents the highest peak of this stretch of the Apennines, as well as one of the largest ophiolitic territories.

Our descent towards the Linguadà pass will then begin.

Once we reach the Linguadà pass, we will have a bus waiting for us to take us back to the starting point.
