From Tuesday 20 January to Friday 6 February 2026 in Fidenza
Documentary exhibition
A journey into the childhood of the early twentieth century, the age of iron and fire, to understand how war, heroic death, virilism, the exaltation of the uniform and weapons became daily bread for Italian children.
How was it in class during the conquest of Libya?
How did you read in the newspapers during the Great War?
How did fascism manage to put Italian youth in uniform?
How was the war in Ethiopia explained at school and in the square?
When did military culture become a school subject?
The exhibition illustrates this and more and the sources used range from children’s magazines to archival documents, from teaching tools to textbooks, notebooks, school reports and children’s writings.
The curator is Gianluca Gabrielli, PhD in History of education at the University of Macerata.
