On Sunday 26 July 2026 , a free excursion in absolute preview, to discover the ecological niche of Val Gelana and the sandstone quarries of Carniglia (“Bedonia stone”).
10.00 a.m. meeting in Bedonia, at Piazza Centinaro and transfer by car to the starting point of the trek (3 km by car)

We will go up the mysterious Val Gelana until we reach the first of the historic bridges “of Maria Luigia” and here we will discover the mysterious “Old Mill”. Val Gelana opens up to us like a treasure trove of stories lost in time. We go up the stream among lush vegetation until we reach the hamlet of Caneso, where it seems that the famous Duchess of Austria stayed at the Cavalli house. Here we have lunch in front of one of the many fountains in the village.
After admiring the splendid historic portals, we begin a path in the woods until we reach Carniglia, a hamlet that gives its name to the famous sandstone for construction; in this small village we rediscover many elements of rural architecture and enjoy the splendid view of the upper Taro valley.
From here we descend again towards the Val Gelana. At the end of the route, it will be possible to visit one of the sandstone mining activities.
The guides Giacomo Galli (expert in history and architecture) and Emanuele Mazzadi (architect specialized in the recovery of historic buildings) will be with us.
At the end of the event, possibility of a snack/aperitif together with Bedonia, then kisses & hugs and… See you on the next adventure!
