The shooting stars of San Lorenzo are an annual astronomical phenomenon, mainly visible around August 10, when the Earth passes through the debris of the comet Swift-Tuttle.
With an evening meeting around 7.30 pm at the Pelizzone pass, we will then embark on a ring route surrounded by verdant woods and 360° views of the Ceno Valley, to discover the top of Monte Carameto, one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Italy, from where we will observe the famous shooting stars.
Starting from the Pellizzone Pass, a pass belonging to history that has seen the passage of pilgrims and merchants, we descend slightly and then take the road that leads to the wide flat pastures called Piana dei Lagoni, we will then go in the direction of the pretty Chapel of San Giovanni with the fountain of the same name located nearby, from there we will climb up to the summit of M. Carameto where it is possible to enjoy an extraordinary 360 degree panorama of the Val Ceno, the Val d’Arda and the Po Valley. The southern side of the mountain has an interesting geological aspect, among the forest cover you can in fact observe fascinating light and dark limestone layers dating back to about 70 million years ago. The vegetation is composed of beech, hawthorn, juniper and hazelnut trees. We will then return by descending the ridge of the mountain that leads back to the Pelizzone pass.
