The excursion will take place on Saturday 8 August 2026. Meeting point for departure: 5:00 p.m. at the Episcopal Seminary of Bedonia, or at 6:00 p.m. at the Passo del Chiodo (border between the municipality of Santo Stefano d’Aveto and the municipality of Bedonia): from here the excursion will begin.

The excursion will be cancelled, with timely notice to people who have booked, if the minimum of 10 participants (max 20) is not reached.

Participation fee: adults 18 € – children and young people up to 18 years accompanied 10 €

The classic excursion for the night of almost mid-August in search of shooting stars, the meteor shower of the Perseids that take the name of “tears of San Lorenzo”, is back.

And what better place to observe them than the summit of Monte Penna, the symbolic mountain of the valley, after admiring the sunset that dives behind Monviso, with the lights of the sea that come on in the distance?

Located at an altitude of 1,735 meters, the summit is an ophiolitic peak from which you can admire the valleys below and, on clear days, the sea and the mountains of Corsica. The route winds through beautiful beech forests, among beautiful flowers of alpine origin, touching a characteristic natural amphitheater of glacial origin (the “Nave del Monte Penna”), with a more difficult but fascinating final stretch: the climb through the rocks, a short unexposed track, facilitated by the presence of a metal handrail. “Even before reaching the summit, a slice of the sea will appear in front of us, a prelude to what awaits us up there… and it is always the same emotion, the same incomparable amazement… The mountain that has no view of the sea is sad”… And once you reach the summit, after sunset, an incomparable “starry”, full of shooting stars. The return, at night, follows an easy route, illuminated by torches. The excursion is within the Site of Community Importance “Monte Penna, Trevine, Groppo and Groppetto” and is particularly interesting for its landscape, botanical, geological and historical-cultural aspects.
