“The battleship Potemkin” as you have never seen and heard it, set to live music by pianist Rossella Spinosa. On Sunday, November 16, 2025 in the Oratory of the Rocca Sanvitale in Sala Baganza at 6 p.m., the new appointment of the concert series “A Tu per Tu”, now in its nineteenth edition, will give the public an original and unique sensory experience, which will blend the images of Sergej Eisenstein’s masterpiece with the “live” performance of Edmund Meisel’s soundtrack.
The silent film, made in 1925, is considered one of the most important works in the history of cinema. It tells of the mutiny of the sailors of the Russian battleship, exasperated by the inhumane conditions on board. The refusal of the commander and the doctor to accept the protests for inedible food sparks the revolt. The ship docked in Odessa, where the population enthusiastically welcomed the gesture of the sailors, but the intervention of the imperial guards repressed the protest in blood.
Rossella Spinosa is one of the most authoritative interpreters of the soundtrack of silent films. He has played in prestigious halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Italian Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo and the Teatro alla Scala Museum. Spinosa has also collaborated with internationally renowned composers and premiered numerous works dedicated to her. In 2009 he played in duo with Oscar winner Luis Bacalov, with whom he shared projects and friendship. Author of works for orchestra, theater and opera, she has soundtracked over one hundred silent films, receiving wide acclaim from audiences and critics.
The “A Tu per Tu” festival, which offers a program of concerts of the highest level with free admission, is organized under the artistic direction of Maestro Claudio Piastra thanks to the commitment of the Municipality of Sala Baganza in collaboration with Parma OperArt APS and with the fundamental contribution of the entrepreneur Giorgio Tittarelli, recently deceased, owner of the Crosspolimeri company.
