The Club for UNESCO of Carpineti was recognized by the Italian National Commission for UNESCO in June 2019, after a long period of apprenticeship. Its link with the UN agency that promotes inclusion/sustainability/peace through education, science, culture and communication – can be outlined in the following terms. It is a heterogeneous group of citizens, an expression of civil society, which is committed to promoting the principles, values, conventions and programs of the prestigious organization on its territory. Solidarity campaigns, heritage walks, articles and events dedicated to the international days of UN and UNESCO: these are some of the activities he proposed to citizens. The starting point of its path is, however, a significant relationship with the territory. In fact, undertaking the process to set up a Club, the promoters reflected on how much the concept of heritage elaborated in the UN convention of 1972 and then enriched by the UNESCO convention of 2003 (relating to intangible cultural heritage) was attached to the place on which they operated. It was therefore agreed that, by virtue of its anthropic, landscape and environmental resources, Carpineti could become a place for reflection on the issues of conscious citizenship and sustainable development. In this regard, it has not escaped us that this country, the center of gravity of our activity, is located in the heart of the MaB Unesco Reserve of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, in whose consultation the Club is a member. Here it becomes essential then, for this association, to build networks of virtuous collaborations, together with associations (not least other Italian UNESCO Clubs) and institutions (such as the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park), with the aim of promoting together the values of inclusion, sustainability, attention to the relationship between human beings and the environment of UNESCO. For those wishing to learn more about the activities of this association, you can follow the Facebook page CpUCarpineti and the You Tube channel “r-ESISTERE in Appennino”, which contains video interviews with people who live in the Biosphere Reserve of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.
