Spring opens the doors of the Castle of Carpineti, located on a rocky outcrop that gives a breathtaking view of the Emilian Apennines. The favorite residence of the Countess Matilde of Canossa, because almost impregnable, was the scene of agreements between popes, emperors, kings and dukes decisive for Italian history. Today the remains of the imposing fortress with the adjacent Romanesque Church of St. Andrew are visited by thousands of people every year.
