Sunday, October 23, the Reggio Emilia section of the Cai, in collaboration with the cooperative Il Pontaccio, organizes an excursion along the Ring of Vetto. This very interesting route was inaugurated in 2017, incorporating the path of the Terraces, born from a recovery project of the ancient and imposing terraces above Vetto, started in 2011 and made possible thanks to the commitment in particular of the Municipality of Vetto and the Reclamation Emilia Centrale, as well as the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Gal Antico Frignano and the Reggio Apennines. The intervention led to the cleaning of several sections of the dry stone walls, their arrangement, the creation of paths and educational panels for the visit. The project was curated by Silvia Costetti and Giuseppe Baldi.
The terraces are a dense and complex series of dry stone walls, up to 2.5 meters high made with blocks of local stone. They were made to allow the cultivation of vines, fruit trees, wheat, barley, potatoes, and even capers (still present) on a very steep side of the mountain that descends towards Vetto.
In anticipation of this excursion, an evening on terraces will be held on Tuesday 18 October at 9 pm at the Cai headquarters in Reggio, in via Caduti delle Reggiane 1H.
