From 18 June to 3 July 2022 in Val d’Arda, in the province of Piacenza, second edition of NUOVE ESPLOSIONI FESTIVAL Organized by Sciara Progetti Teatro.
Sciara Progetti Teatro, born on the slopes of Etna, crosses Europe and South America with its shows and then arrives in the hostel of an ancient mountain monastery, in a small depopulated hamlet of the Alta Val d’Arda, in Emilia Romagna: a theater company with an international background, which in the mountains of the province of Piacenza has seen the ideal place in which to redesign a clear cultural action and build a new incubator of ideas, a laboratory of artistic production, able to restore vitality to a community that – like many areas far from city centers – risks abandonment; in which to bring meetings and experiences to connect the mountains to the cities in a distant but extremely new place, reinhabited by stimuli and cultural proposals, in which to live or spend different weeks.
The Festival is configured as an action of Redevelopment of a territory through art and theater, an initiative built on the needs and potential of the Val d’Arda, with the aim of attracting cultural stimuli from all over Italy and Europe, bringing together on the territory of Piacenza the meetings cultivated by Sciara Progetti over more than 12 years of activity in over 25 countries around the world.
A cultural proposal of value with multidisciplinary activities, tra theater en plein air, major street events, artistic residencies, community workshops, concerts, mobile theaters, workshops with participants from over 15 countries around the world and a conference dedicated to the role of culture in the strategies of repopulation of inland areas. The management of the Monastery Hostel in Morfasso is the result of the choice of Sciara Progetti Teatro to accept the challenge of creating in this Valley, through the theater, actions of urban regeneration and social inclusion, of repopulation of a semi-uninhabited territory.
On June 19, at 9 pm, in the Parco delle Driadi in Castell’Arquato, the first show will be held dedicated to the great names of Italian narrative theater with Guido Catalano and Roberto Mercadini, similar and complementary beings, opposite and analogous, will tell their solitary vicissitudes and their long friendship, between obvious similarities and equally obvious differences. Memoirs, confessions, stories, poems, fables, myths, tears, laughter, loves, hatreds, unbridled exuberance and tones of impeccable sobriety.
On July 3rd, at 9 pm, in the Piazza del Borgo di Vigoleno, the festival will close with Giuseppe Cederna who will stage “The courtesy of the blind” taken from the poems of Wislawa Szymborska. We will talk about adventures, shipwrecks, drifts and illuminations, a collective and profound experience of sharing and listening, a small miracle of theatrical participation.
All the programming of the second edition of NUOVE ESPLOSIONI FESTIVAL revolves around a central event, of great impact and attraction for the communities of the valley, which will be held in Fiorenzuola (Piazza Cavour) on June 25, at 9 pm, the first Italian this year after Procida Italian capital of culture 2022.
This is the representation of MOBY DICK, a Teatro dei Venti production, winner of the Ubu Prize 2019 for Best Stage Design. A timeless classic of literature transformed into a gigantic square event: over 20 artists on stage, a mobile stage of 13 meters by 7, up to 11 meters of the master tree, hundreds of extras chosen from the host community; An entire country that not only welcomes, but actively contributes to the realization of the show, after a week of rehearsals in the form of a community theater workshop.
PROJECT UP BUS TEATRO VIAGGIANTE – THIS IS NOT A BUS
The Sciara Progetti Teatro Company has purchased a double-decker bus, has re-set it up and mechanically re-designed to become a theater on wheels, a listening point and itinerant cultural garrison, and is organizing with this vehicle with a strong visual impact, a journey along the roads of all Europe: on board, artists, educators, researchers, social workers and various guests from the world of culture, to conduct a series of interventions to raise awareness of the phenomenon of gender violence.
During the Festival, UP BUS will meet the community of the province of Piacenza to address the issue of gender violence through artistic interventions and community workshops, feeding inclusive and positive behaviors through participatory methodologies.
UP BUS will stop for 30 days in the valley, in all the municipalities involved in the project, and theatrical performances will be carried out in the morning for students and in the evening for all communities, meetings with experts, cultural animation actions. The theatrical, cultural and artistic activities will be functional to an action to raise awareness of the widest possible audience on the issues of the culture of consent and the fight against gender violence.
And four more site-specific shows in the most evocative places of the valley, including on June 26, at 9 pm, in the cloister of the Municipality in Lugagnano, “Far west” – production Teatro Dionisio, on July 1, at 9 pm, in the same location of Lugagnano, “Cassandra Venti Venti” – production Botti du Shcoggiu, “Uno strappo” – production Sciara Progetti Teatro), community workshops for young and old people of the territory, a concert of African music and the singer-songwriter Salvo Giordano, 12 days of itinerant cinema and theater in the mountain hamlets of the valley, 3 international artistic residencies: Julie Stanzak of Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater, Carullo Minasi Company, Casa del Teatro Ragazzi in Turin; 6 projects for Erasmus Plus, with artistic residencies, from over 27 countries around the world.
On June 30, at the hostel of the Monastery of Sciara Progetti Teatro / Morfasso, Alta Val d’Arda, will be discussed in a conference on “Internal areas and mountains: the role of culture in the mountain repopulation strategy”, a day of dialogues, meetings, training activities, workshops and exchange of good practices with participants and experiences from over 15 countries around the world. In this place will reside guests from the world of culture, political decision-makers, creators of effective strategies in the cultural and entertainment management and artists from different European countries; They will all be bearers of experiences of reactivation of places, case histories and good practices. A moment that was born to become an annual event to reflect on national and European cultural strategies.
