Val Nure: between history, nature and traditions

Posts
Originally inhabited by Ligurians and Celts and then in succession by Romans and Lombards, the Val Nure in the Middle Ages had great importance for pilgrims, both heading to Rome and Santiago de Compostela (to embark on the Ligurian coast), since along the way it was possible to find numerous small hospitals where to stop.

Since the thirteenth century it has been traveled by caravans of merchants who transported their goods on the back of a mule; so for the people of Piacenza this territory coincided with the Via dell’Olio, while for the Genoese it represented the Via del Pane. Land of transit, therefore, a crossroads of roads, paths and passes today a destination for trekking enthusiasts, a challenge for bicycle and MTB lovers, riding pleasure for motorcyclists. The Val Nure, in fact, connects with the Trebbia valley through the Pia pass, the Cerro pass, the Sella dei Generali and the Mercatello pass, with the Perino valley through the Cappelletta pass and the Sella dei Generali, with the Aveto valley and Liguria through the Crociglia pass, with the Ceno valley through the Linguadà pass, the Passo delle Pianazze and the Passo dello Zovallo, with the Val d’Arda through the pass of Monte Santa Franca and with the Val Chero through the pass of Prato Barbieri. All viewpoints that are worth the trip.

The battles for the wars of conquest between the various local noble families, such as the Camia, the Nicelli, the Malaspina and the Anguissola, have left a legacy of towers, fortresses and castles that still characterize the landscape. Some are open to the public, others transformed into a private residence, municipal seat or farm, others dominate cliffs as evidence of forgotten splendor.

Part of the green heart of the province of Piacenza, Val Nure is the ideal destination for those who love nature, including outdoor experiences, relaxation and food and wine.
